Crossovers for Speakers
A speaker crossover is an unseen electronic circuit that essentially forms the brain of a speaker and plays a crucial role in determining how a loudspeaker sounds. The crossover dictates what range of frequencies pass through to the various drivers on a speaker. A well-designed crossover is as much a refined art as it is a skilled science. When done right, the best speaker crossovers create a broad, yet precise soundstage, with accurate frequency response and imaging at all listening positions in a room and faithful reproduction of the source signal. Precision components and exacting crossover topology is necessary to achieve balance between frequencies and blend the output of each driver.
It's not uncommon for speaker engineers to spend more time on crossover tuning and design than anything else.
