16-46 PCPlus Continued -- Features
Not quite sure where your audio products come from? How about a small factory in rural Ohio? The SVS PC-Plus subs clearly encompass component sets we're quite proud to highlight in detail. For instance, if a sub's brain is the amplifier, then the heart must be the woofer. The third generation Plus woofer (which we call the Plus 12.3) runs counter to virtually every trend in the industry: It's made by us, it's made in our Ohio factory, and we released it when we were good and ready, knowing full well that its predecessor was already unmatched in this price class. Of course, it's expensive to make but it's what we do to keep on top of a competitive market. More than ever this package rivals its more expensive PC-Ultra brother, taking the Plus legacy and upping the ante in every performance aspect.
But a world-class woofer is only part of the picture. Using other high performance parts like its efficient (and patented) 3" port flare assemblies, unique space-saving cylinder enclosures, and a famed Canadian-built BASH amp with 525 watts RMS... you get performance that's a virtual sonic clone of our award winning Powered Box cylinders in a much more compact and light-weight form factor. When Sound Stage reviewers tested the PC-Plus they said they'd "not heard a better subwoofer at several multiples of its price." We're already hearing similar accolades for the PC-Plus subs using our latest woofer. It's better still after all.
SVS "Plus 12.3" Woofer
When you start out to better a design as good as the second generation
SVS Plus woofer, you have your hands full. The "old" woofer
(called the dB12.2 in house and used in all Plus subs till late
February 2006) was already the industry leader at this price point. Typically
rivaling drivers costing 2-3X as much, it was compact, reasonably
good looking, with excellent durability and off-the-map performance
exceeded only by our own Ultra woofers. Make an even better Plus
woofer, and keep the price the same? It was a very tough task
that might never have happened. It took over 2 years of developmental
work and experimentation with
emerging materials and design, all put through a gauntlet of extreme
testing in our R/D labs. Every "old" performance
chart was dissected;
some beta-testers got into the feedback loop; rare failed second
generation woofers we're put under the knife too.
It wasn't easy, or cheap, but our development team came up with
a clean sheet of paper design that looks better, works better, and
is more durable than the last Plus woofer. Looking close,
you'll see little touches like elegant black anodized finish that
helps dissipate heat, evidence of special spider tooling which keeps
that critical part aligned, with much more. This is a woofer
that'll keep its composure in anything from subtle, to extreme use. Even
less obvious, state of the art adhesives are expertly used in small
batch building runs to maintain quality unlike anything we've ever
done. Rather than sub-contract this bread-and-butter component,
all the custom design and assembly was done in-house, where production
will continue. In a day when whole product lines, whole brands,
are routinely sent to lowest cost bidders overseas, your Plus woofer
once again bucks the trend.
While our entry level NSD drivers remain the high-performance budget
choice in subs like the PCi family or the PB12-NSD, if you can afford to step up a
bit to the PC-Plus subs, or their PB12-Plus brothers, you will get more "bang for the buck" than
ever. Once again we can say, affordable performance doesn't
get any better than this. What sort of driver does your old
subwoofer have?

Integrated Base Plate with Down-firing Woofer and Floor Mounts
No matter how your rock rolls, or how low your organ goes, the shockwaves emanating from that high efficiency woofer propagate out from a fixed platform, our integrated base-plate. Not the floor, and not your ceiling. When you're in the midst of your favorite action movie scene you might wonder if such a stylish, modern looking enclosure can can really move your home theater (without moving around itself). Fortunately for SVS customers, all the drama will be on screen, and all around you in gut pounding, accurate bass. Your subwoofer will serenely be belting it out at all the right moments. Rock solid. Utterly unflappable. Once again, form follows function at SVS.
Want another example of thinking outside the box? How about something simple, like putting our drivers in the preferred downward firing position. Easier said than done in a slender column oriented subwoofer! But doing it this way makes for the most stable enclosure. Its low center of gravity and an inherently well-protected woofer mean years of rock-solid performance. Bass that goes this low, starts there too. Who needs a top-heavy sub? Get SVS and forgetaboutit!
So maybe you have a hard floor and it's time to setup your sub? You won't find hard plastic feet or metal spikes that will vibrate on your SV Subwoofer. Instead the default mounting configuration is a set of compliant disks perfectly suited for wood, vinyl or tile flooring. Because our subs have such a low center of gravity the same setup works just as well on thickly padded and carpeted floors too.
"Tri-Power" High Flow Ports
The SVS Plus woofers are rather powerful and extraordinary, so ordinary ports would not do to vent the intense pressures and frequencies. No less than three 3" ports are used to tune each of the PC-Plus subwoofer. These are heavily flared (both inside the sub and the outer flare too) patented, high-flow ports. You can rest assured they are costly, but just because some makers skimp by without them doesn't mean any of your SVSs ever will.
CNC'd to mount flush with high-density seals, and flanked by enhanced hand laminated black finished Baltic Birch end-caps (a whopping 1.5" thick). You will want to keep peeking under our specially damped 15" black mesh grill just to see them.
If you think these look like highly engineered bass tuning ports... you'd be right. But how they sound, when coupled with the Ohio-built Plus woofers, is something even the award winning PCi subwoofers can't quite match. Insert one of the included "port blocker" and you have taken your PC-Plus nearly 5Hz lower in "tune". Great for those intent on tweaking their sound as they want it in their room.
Resonance Free, Protective Top Port Grill
No driver to damage up top there, but who needs the kids dropping their toy cars into your sub? Specially modified for total resonance damping, these stylish grills are as good looking as they are functional. Did we mention that the special damping features were added because we once detected a hint of harmonics emanating from the grill (on a special test tone)?? Yes, someone did sweat the details on the performance of each component in your next sub. We're the largest user of these grills in the entire industry. Some OEMs have people buy their own grills. We can't figure that out either.
PC-Plus 525 watt BASH Amplifier
This high output full-featured digital switching amp was designed by SVS in partnership with one of the most capable and largest original equipment manufacturers in the world. Built in Canada to exacting standards seldom seen in this price class, its rugged, clean layout and construction serves as a perfect compliment to SVS PC-Plus subwoofer. Again, thousands of man-hours were expended dialing in performance that perfectly matched our latest generation Plus woofer and the rest of the PC-Plus enclosure. Naturally we also made sure our own logo graced this amp as a reminder that no other subwoofer manufacturer has it. And since you can only get one on your SVS, you won't see them floating around the various "do it yourself" e-tailers either. Isn't it nice to know your amp was made just for your sub?
Don't let the 525 watt power rating deceive you. Given our latest US-made drivers and the exceptionally efficient SVS cylinder design, the SVS PC-Plus (like the PCi, its somewhat less potent cousins) can often embarrass other subwoofers touting thousands of watts. The only thing as radical as this amp's performance is the mounting we designed to flush fit the amp to our custom polymer wrapped industrial strength enclosure tubing. Only the design team at SVS figured out how to do it!
To wit: This amp provides variable crossover (with bypass), variable phase, defeat-able auto-on, high-level and low-level inputs, detachable power cord and a whopping 525 watts RMS of power. In short, this is one amp you can count on to provide years of accurate, deep and powerful bass. We even include the unprecedented feature of a four position subsonic filter switch so you can tune your PC-Plus (along with the included port blocker ) as you like. Get the BASH advantage on your SVS now.
More on BASH
BASH® is a proven class of amplification, answering the market needs for efficiency without compromising sound quality. BASH® is a patented "High Efficiency Linear Amplifier" circuit topology that has taken the best of Class D and Class AB and created a new Class of its own. By combining a fast response power converter with a linear amplifier, BASH® is able to maintain both class AB sonic performance and class D efficiency.
BASH® can produce high power levels without cost penalties typically associated with conventional amplifier designs. A linear amplifier rated at 100 Watts should be able to deliver 20 Watts continuously. If the same amplifier is to play musical transients that are 10dB louder than its rated power, the amplifier must be able to deliver 1000 watts dynamically. To deliver such dynamic power would require the internal power supply rails to be 300% higher, and the resulting power dissipated at 20 watts output to be 350% higher resulting in increases to heat sinks, power transformer, bulk capacitors, output devices and ultimately increases the cost.
BASH® provides customers new solutions, opens new markets, offers greater flexibility, and ultimately reduces the cost of amplification.

Flush-mount Amp Configuration
What makes the SVS PC-type subwoofers so unique? Well, besides being packed with components normally only found in subs costing thousands more, is the fact only SVS figured out how to take a state of the art “plate amp” and mount it flush, safe and secure in the nicest looking and best built cylinder subwoofer in the world. Countless designs were tested and what finally made the cut was something so robust, so effective and so elegant that SVS simply had to build it. All the advantages of a subwoofer cylinder, with the convenience of an “all in one”, built-in amp. That’s the PCi and PC-Plus and now PC-Ultra subwoofers…only available at SVS.
Architectural-Grade. Black Fabric Exterior
Some audio enclosures and grills are made from some pretty cheap materials. At SVS we don't cut corners in an effort to increase profits. We just hand select excellent materials that we'd want (and have) in our own homes. Specially laminated and extra thick 1.5" birch baffles, and costly high-end fabrics. All still brought to you at affordable prices. And we think that logo is pretty hot too.
Frequency Response

* Smoothed, quasi-anechoic frequency response: Measured with high resolution instrumentation via "ground plane" technique, outdoors, at two meters' distance, a minimum of 70 feet from reflective boundaries. 16Hz (native) response shown, 12Hz extension with one included port plug.
Note: In-room extension, with corner placement, will typically yield 3-5Hz greater linear extension than shown. Results will vary based on room size, seat distance from your SVS sub, and subwoofer location in the room. Chart does not depict maximum output of this model and is not directly comparable to other SVS models except for frequency response.
