New PC12-NSD DSP
Proof that world-class bass doesn't mean expensive, huge, nor boring.
Now with all new SVS STA-400D DSP amp!Our highest domestic content subwoofer.
Like nothing else. Don't compare this "entry level" SVS PC12-NSD subwoofer with similarly priced imported subs from our big competitors. Always one of the best subwoofers in the world it's more powerful and more accurate than ever with its new Sledge™ amp with DSP control and nearly 100 watts more power .
While light-weight and taking up no more floor space than a typical potted plant, in-room response for mid-sized spaces will startle you -- down to 17hz or lower. The efficient cylindrical cabinet means it keeps up nicely with its larger and heavier Powered Box brother, the PB12-NSD.
Couple the costly and sophisticated Analog Devices DSP-controlled STA-400D SVS amp, the longest 4" port ever in our compact cylinder enclosures, plus a stiff powder-coated aluminum-cone NSD 12" woofer, and you have world-class, affordable performance in a super-small foot print.

And while we ship all over the world and have tens of thousands of Powered Cylinders in daily use in every corner of the globe, each is still hand crafted in SVS's own factory. Even our famous woofers are designed and assembled only by and for us.
And at SVS built-here means you are taken care of here, by the same crew which designs and builds your products. |
SVS 12" NSD aluminum cone woofer
SVS has long built its own woofers. The latest 12" NSD is one of a continuous evolution back many years now. While affordable ,there is nothing much "off the shelf" in this woofer, the heart of any sub. Every part was selected for maximum performance and with this latest NSD rev, we've even put on the stiff, costly and oh so attractive powder-coated aluminum cone stolen from our equally famous Plus 12.3 woofer.
The logo? LASER etched. Call us suckers for slick cosmetics when we can sneak it in the build of material. See, even though it costs much more than the excellent but rather plain "poly" cone of earlier PCi subwoofers, our "cycle time" on the SVS assembly line goes down with aluminum.
So you get a nicer looking woofer (hidden though it might be) and we are able to satisfy world-demand on an even more efficient basis, efficiency counts more than ever today.
With the newer deeper tuned enclosure and another round of refinements from our stalwart BASH amp chassis, you can better frequency response, and know your sub is capable of an even greater pounding than ever. Yet like all SVS products, it's still supremely accurate on anything from Jazz to
Jurassic Park. Using progressive poly-cotton spiders, , an American made
voice coil and precision over-hung motor structure, the NSD woofer might not
win every beauty contest, but you'll care little about that when
you hear how it works.

- SVS designed, US-built, high-temp aluminum voice coil with polyimide insulation
- Double-stacked, select-grade ferrite magnet
- Progressive custom poly-cotton spider with integrated tinsel leads
- Heavy-gauge, deep-stamped steel basket
- High-excursion, custom NBR surround (Nitrile Buna-N Rubber)
- High-strength aluminum, powder-coated cone with LASER etched SVS logo
- Polyamide former/bobbin
for max temp tolerance
- Low-carbon 1008 steel single-piece T-Yoke and gap plate
- Absolute highest quality acrylic adhesives used throughout

400 watt SVS STA-400D Sledge™ DSP-controlled amplifier
Like its higher powered Sledge™ DSP amp brothers (the STA-800D and 1000D) this high-output unit was designed just for us, and is so costly you really should not expect to see anything like it at anything like the price points SVS is building it in to.
Previous generations of amps for our "NSD" lines of subs were quite advanced in their day, but used more conventional analog pre-amps. This is hardly a handicap for big vented subs, where tuning is reasonably straightforward, but small sealed subs pretty much demand DSP precision. Our vented subs benefit from this advance as well too however, nearly another 100 watts doesn't hurt.
After all, this is no ordinary "DSP amp". Our design-partner is none other than Tymphany Audio, who you may know as makers of Vifa and Peerless drivers, and fabrication of many many other brands of equipment, which demand the highest possible technology, impeccable quality control, plus the ability to make lots of them. While the old amps were assembled in Canada, nearly all components were from China towards the end. The very next production run would have emanated from China, but not from factories under our control. Instead now SVS has set up representative offices we don't leave for weeks at a time. This is the sort of relationship we have with the Sledge amp makers.
Yes, we practically live there. Torture tested around the world in places you might have trouble finding on the map, SVS has gone back and invested in higher grade materials, higher power and higher precision parts than this sort of "entry level" subwoofer has ever seen. Not least of which are USA Analog Devices DSPs, and beefed-up power supplies to handle extreme AC line-voltages from 100V too 250V and beyond. With every sort of objective testing and subjective program material you can name ---if any test amp tripped up, even under the most extreme conditions, we worked with the engineering staff to make the design better still. Some were left running at full power for WEEKS, just to see if any would die. None did.
It's well known the STA-400D amp was late to market, and we're well known for telling people why: Because we are audio equipment customers first and foremost, and if we're not impressed, no matter how its set up, no matter what line voltages nor how modest OR how high-end the upstream equipment is... then well
we know at least one of you won't be either. Good enough is not good enough here.
The STA-400D DSP amp might look conventional, but those knobs are not even really "knobs" in the normal sense, they are digital actuators, which precisely control gain, phase, crossover (and of course disable the latter too if you like). Of course there is an on/auto-on toggle switch as we've always included but now a full digital power supply, and "green" standby mode too. Which means its ready to be a good citizen on the power grid too, unlike their less efficient predecessors.
And see if you can get one to get even mildly warm in use. A clip light lets you know when you have reached the stops, but you won't hear anything untoward audibly if you do. No matter what you do in setup, it just stops getting louder when you push it too hard. That's the power of DSP control, with precisely metered custom tuning for each NSD model. Standard then is SVS's obsession to making this and all our Sledge DSP amps as "bullet-proof" as our woofers have always been. Nothing in the consumer electronics world is ever truly indestructible, but we stopped at nothing, even stopping production itself, to ensure these come as close as possible to that goal.
What nearly another 100 watts does to subs like the PC12-NSD will be what you notice first. The quality that went into these amps is what you will remember years from now.

Flush-mount amp configuration
What makes the SVS PC-type subwoofers so unique? Well, besides being packed with components normally only found in subs costing thousands more, is the fact only SVS figured out how to take a state of the art “plate amp” and mount it flush, safe and secure in the nicest looking and best built cylinder subwoofer in the world. Countless designs were tested and what finally made the cut was something so robust, so effective and so elegant that SVS simply had to build it. All the advantages of a subwoofer cylinder, with the convenience of an “all in one”, built-in amp. That’s the PC12-NSD and PC-Plus subwoofers…only available at SVS.

Integrated baseplate with down firing woofer and compliant floor mounts
No matter how your rock rolls, or how low your organ goes, the shock waves emanating from that high efficiency woofer propagate out from a fixed platform, our integrated base-plate. Not the floor, and not your ceiling. When you're in the midst of your favorite action movie scene you might wonder if such a stylish, modern looking enclosure can can really move your home theater (without moving around itself). Fortunately for SVS customers, all the drama will be on screen, and all around you in gut pounding, accurate bass. Your subwoofer will serenely be belting it out at all the right moments. Rock solid. Utterly unflappable. Once again, form follows function at SVS.
Want another example of thinking outside the box? How about something simple, like putting our Powered Cylinder drivers in the downward firing position. Easier said than done in a slender column oriented subwoofer! But doing it this way makes for the most stable enclosure. Its low center of gravity and an inherently well-protected woofer mean years of rock-solid performance. Bass that goes this low, starts there too.
So maybe you have a hard floor and it's time to setup your sub? You won't find hard plastic feet that might vibrate on your SV Subwoofer. Instead the default mounting configuration is a set of compliant disks perfectly suited for wood, vinyl or tile flooring. Because our subs have such a low center of gravity the same setup works just as well on thickly padded and carpeted floors too.
Precision-tuned, high-flow 4" port
Computer Designed and Patented, these high-flow, low noise ports are made in the USA and an industry standard. Why fix what ain' t broke?? (But we do get them at a great price on your behalf...it helps when you are on a first name basis with the inventor!).
Each is precision fit with high quality, high efficiency foam seals and those flares aren't just there where you can see them, but inside where airflow starts. Form and function run hand in hand here at SVS.
Resonance Free, Protective Top Port Grill
No driver to damage up top there, but who needs the kids dropping their toy cars into your sub? Specially modified for total resonance damping, these stylish grills are as good looking as they are functional. Did we mention that the special damping features were added because we once detected a hint of harmonics emanating from the grill (on a special test tone)?? Yes, someone did sweat the details on the performance of each component in your next sub.

Architectural-Grade Black Fabric Exterior
Some audio enclosures and grills are made from some pretty cheap materials. At SVS we don't cut corners in an effort to increase profits.
We just hand select excellent materials that we'd want (and have) in our own homes. Specially laminated and extra thick MDF baffles, and costly high-end fabrics. All still brought to you at affordable prices. And we think that logo is pretty hot too.
Newly tuned deep frequency response for flat and natural bass in your room

* Smoothed, quasi-anechoic frequency response: Measured with high resolution instrumentation via "ground plane" technique, outdoors, at two meters' distance, a minimum of 70 feet from reflective boundaries. Predecessor PC12-NSD FR temporarily shown.
Note: Tuned for mid-sized rooms, providing flat powerful response with enhanced bandwidth uniformity. In-room extension, with corner placement, will typically yield 3-5Hz greater linear extension than shown. Results will vary based on room size, seat distance from your SVS sub, and subwoofer location in the room. This chart does not depict maximum output of this model, and is not directly comparable to other SVS models except for frequency response.
