PB12–Ultra/2

We've long said it...

Customers are our best form of advertisement.  Most OEMs pour hundreds of thousands, millions of dollars even, into big multi page ads, banners strung across your local mega-electronics store, even TV commercials.  As if that helps build better speakers?

SVS is a bit odd in that regard.  While we've grown many times over in the last few years, we still like it best when experienced reviewers, and better still, customers themselves speak their mind.  Thing is, we'd rather put our budget towards better components and designs, not big ads.  Like we said, this isn't normally the way things work in the consumer electronics industry, but SVS is anything but a "normal" company.

So,  while all over the Internet SVS has long since been "the next big thing", the letters we get rarely get seen by the public.  In this new section then, with permission of the customers themselves, we'll post notes from folks all over the world.  In their own words, this is what music and movie fans... some just like you... have to say about SVS.

SVS,

It's not often that I write a company concerning their products and service, but today I feel compelled to do so.

My cylindrical 20-39 PC-Plus sub arrived Friday and with my husband's help we had it unpacked and set up within just a few minutes. I purchased this sub to round out my home theater experience. I did a lot of online research and found favorable reviews concerning your subs. I'd never heard of your company. Neither had I heard one of your subs. But the reviews, specs, AND the fact that they are made in the USA convinced me to give this product a try.

I've played a lot of music in my lifetime. I played bass guitar in a rock band as a teenager to pay for college. Recently I've been playing cello in two local symphony orchestras. I'll listen to anything if the artists are talented. My experience is unique in that in all of my experience, I have been right in the middle of where that deep clean bass is produced when the music is made. While performing in the band, I had my large personal amp with twin 15's and folded horns to my rear. While playing cello, the bass section is right in back of me, the deep brass is to my right. And, of course, I am performing with an instrument that by itself produces some wonderful bass tones and "sounds" that can only be felt.

All of my life, I have been immersed in the music, in the bass section, in that sweet spot where bass can be felt as it is also heard. Never in my life have I been able to feel that same experience while listening to recordings. That is until now.

The acoustics of my listening space are dismal. I have a great room in the center of my home and the entertainment system divides that space by jutting into the middle of it. The sub is placed against a wall BEHIND the sound system, not to the side. It is not ideal by any means but it is what I have. The bass produced by the SVS is clean and pure. It fills this space at a very low setting. I've been pulling out recordings all weekend that have impossible bass sections just to put it through its paces. All of Friday night, I lay on the floor with a pillow listening to great classical pieces and some of my favorite rock n roll. The experience was almost religious.

I've had time to sample only a few movie DVD's and I have equally been impressed. After all is said and done, after all the specs are reviewed and compared, what matters most is a fulfilling listening experience. I had planned to use the sub only for movies. But I'll be listening to a lot more music too!

My husband thinks he's got the smartest wife in the world as he attempts to blow out our windows as I write this.

Please thank your team for a terrific product, fast shipping, and the personal attention to my order. I appreciate the fact that you have been able to sort out a separate shipping issue on a weekend.

Michelle

SVS Crew,

This being my first venture into the next level in audio, I've gotta tell you that I'm really disappointed.... in MYSELF... for waiting this long!  All I can say is "WOW" ... the 25-31 PCi sounds incredible.  I dialed it in with the Avia disk and SPL meter and my current miscellaneous speaker set-up.  I really didn't think it was possible to get this much accurate bass in my 13' X 15' room.  I was up until 2AM listening to "The Incredibles", the LOTR trilogy, Diana Krall and various CD's in my collection.  My girlfriend was hysterical watching my reaction throughout the demo.... I couldn't stop smiling (more like gleefully giggling) and she was very impressed as well.  I'll have my Ascend set up in a couple of weeks and I'm sure there will be another round of the same once they're up and running.

That's all.... just wanted to let you guys know that you have another very satisfied customer!

Thanks again,

Bud

SVS,

I've been meaning to write and thank you for your help and patience answering questions and making recommendations that led to my purchasing one of your 20/39 PC+ subs. I've now had it about four months, here is my report:

After uncrating it, finding the most reasonable location for it and then balancing the sound with the rest of my system I have a one word description for the sub WOW!  I mean really, WOW!  It is a terrific piece of gear, it has a high quality look and feel and the sound is nothing short of fabulous.

You may recall I was concerned about how it would sound in two channel for music, well, it sounds wonderful.  The sound is clean and controlled and goes so deep it creates a foundation for the rest of the music.  My main speakers are towers, nearly 48" tall (which makes the WAF a non-issue, the PC+ actually looks a little small compared to the mains), they have pretty good bass extension, but compared to the SVS they're pip-squeaks.  When music with deep bass passages are played on the mains alone, you can hear the lower registers roll off, the same passage with the PC+ running is bottomless, all the sound is heard.  It's not only deep but sounds so natural, it makes me smile.  I use the 80hz cut off as suggested by you and the PC+ handles everything with aplomb, no muddiness, boominess or overhang, just clean, powerful bass that's clear as a bell.  I couldn't be more pleased on this count, the PC+ is transparent, I simply hear music from top to bottom.

Then, with no adjustment to the sub, it plays movies with unbelievable power and clarity.  When there is LFE in the scene it comes through with visceral impact, right in the mid-section.  My three year old granddaughter and I were watching The Incredibles, when the private jet is under attack and makes the first pass towards the viewers, you feel it rush by, she just about jumped into my lap.  After realizing everything was okay, she laughed and giggled every time another whump from the movie occurred. It is very tight and has tremendous impact.

I am as happy with the movie experience as I am the music.  With the addition of the PC+ into my system I honestly don't care if I see another movie in theatres, I'll wait until the DVD is released and buy it for little if any more than I would have spent at the local megaplex on tickets alone.  Having been to the movies recently followed by a movie at home, I believe I prefer my home system; it has a sharper picture, sounds better and possesses bass that's at least as strong and definitely cleaner.  On top of that, my furniture's more comfortable, there are no noisy kids or ringing cell phones and the popcorn's a lot cheaper.

With all these words, the most I can say is, again, WOW!  Great product, great people, great company, thanks again for living up to the promise.

Regards,

Bob, Utah

Gents,

I recently received SV20-39PC Plus and want to let you know that I couldn't be happier with this sub.  In fact, every time I watch a movie or listen to a CD, a smile comes over my face as the house rumbles with deep bass.  I listened to a lot of gimmicky looking compact subs, large 1200-1500 watt boxes, and nothing compared to the sound of the 20-39PC Plus - and the demo's were all in confined, sound attenuated rooms where my house is a large open floor plan with 12 ft ceilings.  And while it may be a bit larger than expected, it blends in nicely in the corner but stands out enough to open a conversation leading to a generous demo.  TOTALLY COOL!

Not only is the product outstanding, but everything I read on the Web regarding excellent customer serviceis true (how refreshing!).  When the sub was, ummm "lost" by UPS, you quickly sent a replacement without making me wait for UPS to "find it" (or at least look for it).    I'm glad I came across you guys on the Web and wanted to let you know you have a very satisfied customer.

Cheers!
Doug

SVS,

OH.....MY.....

I have never heard such awesomeness from a sub. There was some of the most amazing low window-shaking frequencies being played with such ease. And also some distant soft subtle bass that was recreated with amazing realism. I'm absolutely blown away by this sub.  And I used to think that my DIY sub that this was replacing sounded pretty good.  Amazing piece of work SVS. Thank you.  I can't wait to see what movie I watch next that my SVS will help come to life.

.....just too bad that it couldn't make the movie not be so bad...but it sure did sound awesome....

I can't wait to get my next sub from SVS for my future theater room on the 2nd floor which is 13x19x8 - completely enclosed. I'm sure it will be an amazing experience. I'm definitely the newest SVS fan and believer in your products.... A+

Sincerely,

Ryan

PB10-ISD owner

SVS,

I picked up a new sub from your team last winter and wanted to share with you how much I have enjoyed it. I purchased a new PB12-Ultra/2 and used it to replace a famous-brand 12" sub.

The difference is night and day. Watching movies or listening to music is so much better these days due to the performance of this sub. Visitors are blown away by the impact added to our system. I'm glad I stumbled onto your product while surfing the net one day, I will be a customer for years to come. Very interested in your upcoming speaker offering... If they are anything like your subs, they will be a big success.

Thanks again,

Michael

SVS,

My name is Jay and I just recently received my PB12-Ultra. I have been listening to good quality stereo and home theater gear for more years than I care to admit to. I knew from the research I did prior to my purchase that this sub was  top quality and an incredible value, but I find the actual product eclipses even those high expectations. Rarely has a piece of audio gear elicited such emotional response as did this exquisite music machine!!! The only down side I can attribute to this purchase is the realization that I completely wasted my money on another brand of sub. Not even remotely in the same class. Thanks again from an  enthralled  customer.

PS, I have been listening and viewing my entire audio/video library ever since I received the Ultra to hear what I have been missing, and it has been considerable.

Sincerely,

Jay

SVS,

I'm writing you as a proud new owner of a PB12-Plus/2. I took nearly 2 months and listened to over 20 subs before finally deciding on SVS. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision.

I wanted to make a truly informed decision so I did as much research as possible and, with a hefty list of possible subs in-hand, I set out to listen to as many as I could. I was looking for a great musical sub with LFE as an afterthought. Whatever I got, I wanted great music, and if I got movies too, all the better.

I made 3 demo music CDs and armed myself with 2 DVD's that contained every possible action sequence imaginable; all the best explosions and low frequency effects. I listened to subs from $500 to $5000 (not that $5K was in my budget) from all of the major players. I found that any sub available from a brick and mortar retailer for less than $2000 just wasn't to my liking. Some of them sounded okay on music, but just couldn't do the job with LFE. I pretty much decided that I'd have to spend $2000 for a sub. Then I told the salesperson that my room size was over 6000 cubic feet with several openings to the rest of the house. You might want to consider a bigger sub or two subs for a room that big, they said. Aagh! , said I.

Since SVS is mostly billed as a high SPL, low frequency, sub I hadn't really considered it for a mostly music application. A local SVS enthusiast, convinced me to give SVS a listen, and since they have dual driver models, I could probably get one SVS sub that would fill my room. I have to say I was blown away by how well it did both music and movies.

Cutting to the chase, I ordered my SVS sub the next day. I took the day off work yesterday to have some fun and really break it in. I took a couple of hours to get everything placed and dialed in just right and set the PEQ to cancel my biggest peak. I showed great restraint during this time, cause I just wanted to crank it up and see what it would do. It was well worth the wait. WOW! I mean WOW! The PB12-Plus/2 is way more than I could have imagined. I pounded this thing for 4 hours straight with my DD & DTS demo DVD's with nothing but huge explosions, gunshots, cannon fire, crashes, and spaceships. Not one picture in my family room was hanging straight when I was finished and my dogs were cowering at the opposite end of the house!

Now I truly believe that you can't buy too big a sub. This thing was only at 1/3 gain and was barely breaking a sweat. I don't see how it would be possible to ever overstress this sub and still keep my house intact!

I'm not easily impressed and this is the first time that I've ever written a company to let them know that I love their product. Thank you for a fantastic product that doesn't break the bank. If you ever need a testimonial or demonstration for someone in the Phoenix, Arizona area please point people my way.

Sincerely,

Bill, AZ

SVS,

I've had my 20-39PCi  for roughly a week. Holy smokes, it's better than what expected, and after reading all the reviews I expected a lot. Great job with the sub.

Only thing is, in your manual the list of "bass scenes" you guys need to add The Haunting, Scene 17. Most bass I've ever heard, including your list. Check it out....

Again excellent product, and thanks.... this sub made my home audio change from night to day.

Paul

SVS,

It has been a little more than a week now since I received my 20-39PCi and I can't say enough good things about this subwoofer.

We all know the path I took getting here and I hope you know how grateful I am for the terrific customer service I received. You all went above and beyond to make sure my SVS experience was the best it could be.

So, where do I start?  Well, after a break in period I have ventured into the world of real bass.  The MATRIX movie trilogy took me to unknown depths of real gut wrenching bass.  You don't just hear it, you experience it.  You feel it, hear it and almost see it. When you think you've gone as low as you can go this round black tube says hide and watch as it goes even deeper. I played my DVD of James Taylor Live at the Beacon Theater and my mouth never closed.  The bass line was clear, deep and detailed. I was there! When I heard a buzz and rattle I thought I had reached its limit only to find a picture on a wall that had given up and was begging for mercy.

Every thing you say on your web site is true and more.  I can think of no better bargain in the audio business than an SVS subwoofer. Good looks, great quality, and a 110% delivery on promised performance. It doesn't get any better.

Sincerely,

Scott, Michigan

SVS,

I just want to let you know that now after some time to really experience the 25-31 PC-Plus I purchased from your company, I am convinced it is the best "bang for the buck".  Friends and relatives have been simply amazed at the sonic impact your sub has made on my already stellar dedicated home theater system. My previous "high end" monster sub has now been given the duty of an expensive speaker stand since the SVS "came to town".  The ease with which this sub navigates the sonic depths of my movies and music is a pure joy to behold.  Everyone who experiences it can't help but be "moved" (quite literally) by the 25-31 PC-Plus.  *Great* job and keep up the pioneering work!

Here's wishing you a GREAT and many more successful years.

Brian

Hi,

I am writing to let you know how thrilled I am to own your 25-31PC-Plus.  My friends and I watched Return of the King yesterday, and it simply would not have been the same had I not had my SVS. I personally recommend Chapter 70, the scene where Frodo and Sam enter Mount Doom; there is a deep thundering heartbeat that was literally shaking my light fixtures. Simply beautiful! ( you may want to add it to your bass demo page) Not only am I completely satisfied with my sub's performance, but your ultra-prompt customer service and unheard-of shipping times left my jaw on the ground.  Be sure that I will recommend your products to anyone I know!

Thanks again,

James

Dear SVS,

Well its been about a month that I've had the 20-39 PC+ and its time for me to write in to thank you and tell you and others what I think.

First of all if you are working on building a home theater from scratch the way I was then my only piece of advice is don't over look the critical importance of the subwoofer. Going into this project I was a little taken aback by the thought of spending 15% of my budget on the .1 of 5.1! However, after much reading it became apparent that this component is key to achieving the movie theater experience.

Now that it is done, aside from the 106" screen that I have, it is THIS component more than any other that delivers the movie theater experience; even more so than the surround sound which many people seems to focus on. And since I built my Home Theater to not only watch movies and HDTV but also to listen to music in SACD and DVD Audio/Video I was actually surprised by how important this component is to the music experience too. It actually makes the other 5 speakers sound 2 or 3 times better as without the monster (my son's term of endearment for 20-39 PC+ because of the sound and feel it produces in the room and in some cases the entire house).

If anyone is worried about what the cylinder shape looks like don't be. I was a little worried about how it would look and I was very worried about what my wife was going to say when she saw it. But my worries were for nothing; the monster looks great in no short part because of the material SVS uses. It really is a nice looking piece of equipment. I say it looks great but in reality you hardly notice it despite its size. Of course when it kicks in no one can help but notice the impact it has.

I certainly don't need to echo everything that has been written about SVS' products. I'm not very experienced at this and I would not do justice in describing the effect this component has. My experience is that none of the reports I read were exaggerated; these guys deliver an unbelievable sound (feel) and you could not ask for better customer service support or price. They were great about answering questions, processing my order and delivering an unbelievable product in exactly the time and manner they say they would deliver it. My experience was perfect. These guys even answered my emails at crazy hours of the night. My wife thought I was obsessing on this project, I wonder what she'd say about the guys at SVS.

Thanks SVS

G'day SVS,

Just wanted to say thank you for all that you guys have done for me in getting the PB2-Plus subwoofer to Australia.

I have placed it in the area that I had my Sunfire True SubĀ® and did the usual balancing of the channels with the level meter with the sub set to 16Hz. I could tell straight up that I had introduced something very special to my audio system. I was hearing and feeling bass frequencies being excited that I had not detected on the SunfireĀ®. Bravo. I have yet to fully blend it correctly with my mains and will do some fiddling over the coming weekend to get it right. I have also found a few extra rattles that need attention too :o)..

(Edit: Read the rest of what John had to say in his full review here to the right)

Dear SVS,

Just wanted to share a few thoughts about my recent purchase (a PC-Ultra).

This is my first subwoofer and I am very pleased with my choice - the PC-Ultra is an extraordinary speaker.

Wanting to talk to someone before buying, I made the purchase over the phone - thank you for that option. I called on Friday and was told that the speaker would ship on Monday. As promised, the package left Ohio on Monday afternoon and arrived here in Rhode Island by noon on Wednesday! (I thought that UPS did an excellent job with such a large, heavy item).

I found your owners' guide well written, thorough, interesting and easy to understand. After spending more time setting-up (should I say fussing) with my system than I care to admit - I played a movie, and then another movie ... The difference is both subtle and remarkable. Most of the time you don't know the sub is there, but when called for, it has an earth-shaking effect. As my brother noted, HT alters the movie viewing experience - great HT leaves you speechless.

I find the black cylinder to be be very handsome - but you were correct in that it has a way of just disappearing in a corner - well done.

I also appreciate the fact that such a wonderful product is made in this country. I don't buy much, but when I do, I try to support American-made companies.

Thank you again,

Wayne

Wakefield, RI

SVS,

After less than a week with the PB2+ I must say I have never experienced HT like this. My HT equipment is in the den, a 20'x20'x8' room on a concrete slab and it was a struggle for both of my previous subs just to give me a passable level of bass for HT material. After placing the PB2+ in the front right corner of the room and calibrating it, at only

1/4 sub volume and the pre-pro set to about 70% I can actually FEEL the bass of Pirates of the Caribbean, Saving Private Ryan and other films--something I have never experienced to this extent with my previous subs. At 1/3 sub volume I can feel the bass on the walls at the other end of the house! I had thought I might need to get a pair of subs to do the job in the den. I shudder to think what a pair of PB2+'s would do to my neighbors' sanity. One will do nicely, thank you very much.

My fears about the musicality of this sub have also been allayed. I was previously using a REL Q201E (a small cube) which was a fast, musical sub (but abysmal for HT material in my room). The PB2+ seems to blend very nicely with my Magnepan 1.6's and in terms of speed seems to be least the equal of the REL. Deep organ bass is simply phenomenal with the PB2+ tuned to 16Hz.

This by far has been the single most significant improvement in my HT setup and at $1200, one of the least costly. Thank you all for the wonderful products you produce at prices a working person can actually afford. You have added another SVS evangelist to your growing list!

Dave, Ft. Myers, Florida

SVS,

I have been more than blown away by the 20-39 as I continue to tweak it for the room and my tastes.  As I'm sure you've been told many times before (and I hope you are both proud of it) - this is one smokin' sub.  It not only performs great, but the features, build quality and appearance are all top of the line.  Its presence in my HT has redefined what I expect now from films with regards to bass and given our family a whole new experience with regard to HT.  I'm sure that's what you intended when you formed SVS and as one of your customers, I can say you hit the mark....

Doug, CA

Hello people at SVS,

I purchased a subwoofer last week (a 20-39PCi ) which I received two days ago.  And I must say it is everything I hoped for! The slam, the accuracy, everything is so much better compared to my old "subwoofer". No matter how much I turn up the volume, the sound remains very controlled. I hereby want to thank all of you for delivering me this great device (especially for the fair price). I will put a 5-star review on audioreview.com ASAP.  If any of my friends ever need a sub, I'll make sure they will find their way to SVS.

Keep up the good work!

Best regards, another satisfied SVS customer,

Mark, The Netherlands

Hello my Friends at SVS,

Since picking up my twin PB2-Plus subs from the distribution center near LAX about a month and a half ago I am still amazed by their performance and seemingly bottomless bass.

We watched Return of the King on Tuesday night...I love my subs more than words can describe.

Thank you all for making these amazing subs and selling them for such an insanely good price.

SVS ROCKS!!!!

Henry, Los Angeles, CA

... Editor: Henry actually wrote an even more effusive expose but it wouldn't all fit here.  Anyone crazy enough to get TWO of our best subs is worth reading more about!  RJS

Dr, Tim Olaveson in Ottawa, Canada had this to say about his PB2-ISD:

...WOW! Yet again, everything that people have written about the PB2 (and I'm assuming other SV subs) is true, and then some. I now understand numerous things at a much deeper level: why SV subs have an almost "cult" following; why people rave about their performance; why SVS and others claim that you won't find better performance for the money anywhere; why after experiencing 1 SVS you could actually want more; and most importantly, what true HT bass is. And this after only 2 days with my PB2....

"Dr. O" had lots more to say too.  Read the rest of his review here!

SVS,

.... I did fire up the sub to try it out a little bit...WOW...!!! I ran the speaker system set up on my Onkyo receiver (subwoofer included) and played some of The Matrix and Dark City DVD's where the 'bassy demo stuff lives...and I couldn't believe my ears, or skin either :>) !!!! Everything was progressing normally as it had always done with my 15" Cerwin-Vega subwoofer till the REAL 'bassy' passages arrived and the SVS "PB-2-PLUS" effortlessly filled my whole theatre with the most incredible bass I'd ever heard inside these walls !!! Talk about being 'blown away'... I was actually feeling more bass that I was hearing...I think? Anyway, I was in awe, (still am!)! The SV Subwoofer was just loafing along filling my Home Theatre with the cleanest, tightest, highest pressure bass I've ever felt! I didn't go any higher than the 1:30 position cause I was actually afraid I might damage something, either in my ears, or house, or God forbid my new SV PB-2-PLUS SUBWOOFER...I'm not even sure I could hurt the Sub, but until I get my system calibrated using the Avia DVD, I'll just enjoy the incredible improvement in my Home Theatre Audio System....

Sherm, MD

Gentlemen,

I just wanted to let you know that I received the sub and have now (finally) had a chance to fully test it. In one word I can tell you that the sub is AMAZING. I had a chance this weekend to run through the Avia DVD and then fired up Finding Nemo and Rundown. Each of those movies had some great bass scenes - especially Finding Nemo. Thanks for an excellent product. My tastes may change in the future, but for now I'm glad I went with your "little" (25-31PCi) sub! Anything larger would bring the house down - even in my large room.

For the record, I also think the sub looks great.

Thanks again,

Scott, New Jersey

Erik, Ron, Tom,

... I have to say, your sub is one hell of an upgrade from the Strata. After I calibrated, I played a few CDs I know well, and they sounded good, great in fact. Taking the bass off my main speakers has improved focus and imaging, and I don't notice the sub. Its fantastic. Seamless. And the bass is so tight!  Then, I played Master and Commander (DTS). This DVD is actually the reason why I bought your sub. That and Antz, at -15db, bottomed out the REL several times throughout the movie. Not very pleasant. With the 20-39PC+, I now revel in each firing of the canons - so much power and depth, I just can't explain how good it is to hear, and feel those guns go off. Even as the ship moves through the water, the low rumbles of the ocean give a sense of hugeness that I never felt before.

I am still exploring the potential of this sub, and toying with whether I should tune to 12hz or 16hz. I am looking forward to watching movies and listening to music, just to hear those fantastic deep notes. I want to thank you for existing!.. I don't think I could afford sub bass of this caliber otherwise! And I want to thank you again for making the import process painless, thanks for your advice and excellent service.

Chris, UK

Ron and Tom,

I have heard quite a few subs in a short amount of time. About 2 years of working at a large audio video retail chain. I have heard, KEF, Sunfire, Klipsch, Infinity, Definitive Technology, and Martin Logan. The only sub I think comes close to my $800 20-39PC-Plus???? The $2800 Martin Logan Decent... and it's only "close". The SVS goes deeper, and louder. It is also incredibly accurate. I am very happy with it... ask my wife!

Jesse, Colorado

SVS,

My PC-Ultra works great !   I had high expectations from everything I have read on the internet  and it lived up to them and more.  I had originally planned on getting the one PC  Ultra  and a second one after saving up more money.   But now I would have a hard time convincing my significant other the need for another.

Incredible power reserve in just one.!  Great product....looks better in person than it does on the internet also.

Tom

SVS,

I received my SVS PB2-ISD a few days ago and would like to comment on my initial observations:

Music: After spending the proper amount of time integrating it into my system (full range main and surrounds) with the Avia disk and SPL meter, the results are beyond what where my most optimistic expectations. This sub is extremely accurate, reproducing in a most natural, deep and musical way the sounds of drums as well as acoustic bass, two instruments I have always used as reference for this type of auditioning.

Movies: What can I say ?...when called upon during a movie soundtrack, it literally disrupted the foundations of sanity... effortlessly. Potential buyers should be warned, unless they live in the earthquake prone state of California, their local building code may not be adapted for this kind of abuse !

Just the thought that this PB2 is NOT your top of the line offering is, to say the least, quite disturbing. I would tell people not to do drugs...just get yourself an SV Sub instead!

Personal footnote: I use two different gain settings for music and movies. In my set up, this was essential in order not to get "hot", overpowering bass on music while still getting the most jaw dropping impact out of the .1 output during movies. Over the last 25 years as an amateur Audiophile, I have auditioned most types of low frequency driver units, from reinforced pulp to aluminum or polypropylene cones. Although I found the aluminum ones to have the biggest "slam" effect, a high quality, reinforced (Kevlar or other) pulp driver always seemed to reproduce the sounds of a bass drum or acoustic bass more accurately (in a natural way). My new sub obviously puts the rest of my equipment on a catch-up mode. Just the excuse I needed to upgrade them!

This past-time is a great passion of mine, thank you SO MUCH to all of the SVS team for being a part of it.

Gil, Montreal, Canada

"YC" liked his 25-31PC-Plus so much (especially compared to some rather pricey subs he's used) he created his own webpage dedicated to his SVS.

Just an excerpt here then:

... the SVS delivers bass that is tight, extended and loud. I have no doubt that this is quality bass but in quantities that similarly priced REL's (and even one level up from that) have no hope of delivering.

With an impressive number of 5 Five Star reviews, our most popular model, the SV Subwoofers made an auspicious debut on one of webs most far-flung audio/video sites. Here's some choice quotes (but you really out to check out the full articles at Audio Review! one of SVS's favorite new web sites!).

Reg, Audio Enthusiast from Bay Area, CA

"If you are looking for a very good musical sub and one of the best home theater subs, it is hard to look further than this one without spending AT LEAST two or three times more. The value is a given five stars and if you consider any subs in this price range; there simply is NO competition."

William Corbin, Audio Enthusiast from Elizabethtown, PA

"I have a music degree and nothing bothers me more than "boomy", pitch-indeterminate bass, you know, the kind you hear in some kid's car stereos. The SVS handled this very well, it was the antithesis of boom-box bass. It also blended very well with my Paradigm speakers....The string bass on these tracks was nice and clean and articulate. Yes, this sub passed the all critical music test with flying colors. Well as you can guess I love this sub. IMHO it lives up to all the hype I have seen about it.

Kevin Wood, Audio Enthusiast from Macomb Township, MI

"Top performers for the dollar! This is a fact. As much talk as there is on other forums about these subs, you'll not find one unsatisfied customer. They are fabulous and the customer service is second to NONE! I understand that is tough to purchase unheard products over the internet, but SVS offers a 45 day money back guarantee."

Brian, Audio Enthusiast from Boca Raton, FL

"These subs are well built and stylish...the low freq. output of these things is amazing!!"

Robert Saylor, Audio Enthusiast from Hazel Green, WI

"...These subs are the audio steal of the year.... The performance is on a level with subs costing much, much more. And they are better than most. Very well made. It's probably better than 5 stars but that's as high as I can go."

Matt Nalbandian Ottawa, Ontario, Canada:

Compared to my HSU 10V w/250w (the SVS’s) are…dryer, cleaner, faster response and of course, deeper... when there is a snap or a door slam or a kick ...you feel it decisively, although it just testing scenes of DVDs in one night, I could hear and feel the difference.

Your 20-39s are getting lots of "wows" from neighbors...congrats on a great product.

Greg Staten, Nashua, NH:

Greg won a "no strings" attached 16-46CS and 600 watt Fidek from The Home Theater Forum. Well, there was ONE string. Greg was asked to post his unbiased review. He could have said anything. No one was going to say squat if he hated it.

Now no one better think of ever taking it away. Said Greg:

"I put on several other bass heavy DVDs and confirmed that without a doubt the one SVS put out much more impressive bass than the two Velodynes combined! (And the two Velodynes were nearly four times as expensive as the one SVS sub.) The SVS is so impressive that tactile transducers (such as the Clark or Aura shakers) are completely unnecessary. This is one sub you can feel!"

Larry Noud, Battle Creek, MI:

When asked by someone on Home Theater Forum about his pair of SVS 20-39CS's Larry had this to say...

I assure you that it is well worth the wait. Keep in mind though that you are getting very clean output and sounds the way a high end sub is supposed to sound. There is no "boominess" at all with them. I replaced my HIGHLY regarded Mirage BPS-400 subwoofer with dual 12 inch woofers driven by an internal 400 watt amp with 1600 watt peak power my SV Subwoofers literally blew it away. The beauty of SVS's is that they do music just as well as movies. I am thinking of taking my subs to some high end dealers near me and compare them to what they have....I cannot wait to see my salesmen's' reaction when they hear them.

And..."I can honestly say that this is by far the best upgrade I have ever done with my home theater."

Shawn Eyer, Orinda CA:

Lucky enough to have a pair of our fine 20-39CS subs and a 600watt Fidek amp, Shawn is in bass heaven. He said:

"The units produce bass which ranks with the very finest I have heard, and surpasses the vast majority of subwoofers in existence. My previous subwoofer, a THX-certified Onkyo HTS-SW2 (2 12" drivers) could not hold a candle to the SVS subs. I found SVS bass to be both tight and musical."

Bruce Norton:

Also with the 20-39CS and amp package, Bruce said:

"Got 'em hooked up and calibrated, popped in Phantom Menace LD and flipped to the pod race. I can now say I've heard things that I had no idea were even there! VERY impressive...."

"This setup is flat AWESOME!"

Bhagi Katbamna, Hannibal MO:

"The ANTZ clip basically shook the whole room including the concrete floor and the couch. Remember, this is one sub in a 7000 cubic foot room. The tank in the SPR clip was truly awesome and scary."

Think that's all Bhagi had to say? Nope, he felt so strongly he also posted a full page about his SVS on Audio Review. Check this out!

Rob Neumann, Denver CO:

Sporting a single 25-31CS and a 400 watt Fidek amp Rob said...

"I'm very impressed! It integrates with my existing speakers exceptionally well and seems to play even the lowest bass passages (from movies) without any strain whatsoever!"

"...I'm very glad I waited! Great job, guys!"

Mike and Dawn:

Started with a single CS-Ultra and Samson amp. He'd been using a very well-regarded M&K.

"That sub was louder and deeper than anything I've ever had in that room. I heard low bass in parts of DVD's that I never knew existed. I'm also finding that I'm listening at lower levels and being more satisfied. ... I just love those things. Wife thought it looked pretty good. I'll try some other movies later, but from what I've already heard, it's fabulous. Totally blows the M&K away. (quality and quantity).

...(it) sounded perfect right out of the box - no boom- just rock solid low bass... it has the bass I have been trying to achieve for the last 20 years and never could, and it took only 10 seconds for me to realize that I finally found it."

Chip, Audubon NJ:

Hanging out at the Home Theater Spot, we discovered another fan of the very popular 20-39PC.

"I listen & watch at fairly moderate levels too. You CANNOT beat SV subs at any listening level. Outta $14,000.00 + worth of equipment, my 20-39PC is the best deal I got outta ALL my gear."

Paul from Oswego, NY:

Also at Home Theater Spot, spoke eloquently about his newly delivered 16-46PC.

"I just received my 16-46PC sub this week. I could say things like Wow!, etc. etc., but that wouldn't do the beauty justice.

The sub it replaced was good in its own right, but in my humble opinion, just couldn't compare. To be honest, it never even had a chance. If I had to describe the 16-46PC's performance in one word, I'd say "subtle".

Of course the sub is powerful. Very powerful with punch I'd never experienced before. Being a Star Wars fanatic, The Phantom Menace took on a life all its own.

But I digress. The sub is more than simply powerful. My 16-46PC produces very clean, never-muddy, never-boomy bass, regardless of how hard I push it. It has, as one of my German professors used to say, a "refined elegance", clearly the result of superior engineering. Bass is more than just power. Sometimes it's not the aural center stage, but rather just a compliment. This is when subtlety matters most. I prefer to think of it as presence without being present. Not every movie is an action-packed-explosive-adventure, and the ability to so skillfully manage everything in between is a feat by itself.

However, the 16-46PC's subtlety doesn't stop there. It's power even reaps the benefit. At times I notice just the floor shakes. Sometimes the quake advances into the seat of the couch. Other times, however, it's a full body experience, and I think my heart skips a beat.

I opted for the 16-46PC because I am a great fan of organ music. This sub lets me enjoy the full splendor of the mammoth 32' pipes. Something I thoroughly enjoy.

So thanks to everyone at SVS for blessing me with such a wonderful piece of home theater equipment at a price I could afford. Customer service was top notch, and the sub arrived quickly."
